THE enrolment of eligible voters in the National Capital District for next year’s general election started yesterday.
More than 800 enrolment agents will go out into the 12 wards of Port Moresby to update the roll in the next 14 days.
NCD election manager Terence Hetinu said enrolment agents would be placed in central locations.
“The rolls will be there. We do the awareness and people will have to come, check their names,” he said.
“If it is missing, they will have to get enrolled again.
“In the past, we send enrolment agents from house to house. We have stopped that.”
Hetinu said the roll updating exercise would take two weeks.
He said the continuous movement of people from the city and from outside provinces provided a great challenge in updating the roll.
“A lot of evictions were done due to developments in various parts of the city over the years,” he said.
“Because of that, a lot of people have moved from one location to another, from one district like Moresby South to North East or to North West. That has made our job very difficult.”
