THE National Capital District Commission will assist with the completion of the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, according to Governor Powes Parkop.
The 18,000 seat facility located at Konedobu, has been an inactive construction site for the past couple of years as work was halted due to financial constraints.
Governor Parkop told the media last month that the commission, in partnership with various stakeholders, would ensure that iconic sporting facility was completed.
“Once it is complete we are confident that it will be Port Moresby’s premier sports stadium,” he said.
“Because of its larger seating capacity and its location next to the harbour surrounded by all the recent developments in the area transforming the face of the city, the stadium will complement those developments.” Parkop stated that all the original architectural plans and specifications of the stadium would be followed.
“The original plans for the stadium are in place and construction work will follow the existing framework. The main grandstand will have five stories, with restaurants and a gym and corporate boxes. It will be an outstanding stadium once it is finished. Any future sporting events will certainly enjoy what the stadium has to offer in terms of facilitates and location in the city,” Parkop said.
