NDB supports potato project

NATIONAL Development Bank managing director Moses Liu says the bank is glad to have supported the Yapai potato project at Laiagam in Enga.
He said this during the launching of the project last Friday.
“Agriculture is one of the most important sectors which offers a lot of opportunities for employment and income-generation for the people of Papua New Guinea,” he said.
Liu said he admired entrepreneur and economist Sam Talepakali for giving up a good life and job opportunities in town to return home to rural Laiagam to set up the project.
“Our bank supports such projects, but initially, you must have a dream,” he said.
“NDB is supporting the agriculture sector nationwide.
“We’re supporting the Government in promoting agriculture and small businesses.”
Liu said the NDB had over the last seven years lended K165 million to the agriculture sector.
“This has changed the lives of people and created small businesses,” he said.
“One small businessman in the village becomes our social network.
“That is why NDB is supporting small businesses.
“Small businesses will grow into big businesses and new opportunities will be created.”
Liu said Talepakali was a good example for the rest of the country by mobilising the community at Yapai, mobilising finance, and going into partnership with the Fresh Produce Development Agency.
“It requires somebody with dreams and determination, a commitment in life to create such a project,” he said.
“I salute you (Talepakali) as only a few of us can do that.
“You are changing and transforming the lives of the people.”
