Minister for Public Enterprises and State Investment William Duma yesterday announced the National Executive Council’s (NEC) appointment of the PNG Ports Corporation board of directors.
Chairman Nathaniel Poya and three other board members Patrick Amini, Harvey Nii, Luke Niap and Eddie Hesingut were reappointed.
The only new inclusion is businessman and managing director of Chebu Shipping Company Fabian Chow, who was appointed deputy chairman.
Duma said NEC made that important decision to appoint distinguished citizens to the board considering the need for consistency.
“Given that we’ve seen very significant infrastructure development in Port Moresby and Lae, the national government was of the view that in order for our very important company, PNG Ports Corporation, to go forward, it had to ensure that it was led by experienced and competent leaders.
“Cabinet took into account the credentials, the experience, the skills and what each board had contributed to the ongoing operations and achievement of the PNG Ports Corporation.”
Duma also announced the reappointment of Stanley Alphonse as acting managing director.
He said for the purpose of transparency, Cabinet decided that Alphonse would be allowed to remain as acting MD as he’s position is being advertised.
“Cabinet felt that he would be allowed to continue to serve the board and corporation and the Government values his contribution to the organisation.
“We have to keep people who have proven to be assets to our country and he is one of our new generation of young leaders and has served the board as managing director,” Duma said.
