New market opens for Gorobe, Talai settlers

A NEW market have been opened for women and youths of Gorobe and Talai in Port Moresby to sell their produce.
The Gorobe-Talai Market in the Moresby South electorate was jointly funded by MP Justin Tkatchenko and National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop.
Tkatchenko said the market was about changing the way things were done.
“This market is for the women and youths to earn an income in a safe, healthy environment,” he said.
“You can come and sell in a community spirit.
“It is not a place to sit, get drunk or take drugs.
“This is a place for you to sell and make money for your families.
“This market is about livelihood and about changing the way we do things.”
Tkatchenko said the market used to be a health hazard and a gathering place for criminal elements but it now had a fresh and clean outlook.
“The market will make you be mindful of your rubbish and also respect women and children doing their business,” he said.
Parkop encouraged the people to keep the market clean and safe for everyone.
