New Vice-Chancellor arrives

PROFESSOR John Warren has arrived from the United Kingdom to take up the post of Vice-Chancellor at the University of Natural Resources and Environment.
Warren is a professor of botany and holds a doctorate in biology from the University of York. His term is for three years from September 19.
Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff George Bopi said the appointment meant a lot to UNRE and Papua New Guinea.
He said finding a suitable candidate to lead the agricultural institution was a real challenge.
“I am proud that we can have someone like Professor Warren. It means a lot to us and we really appreciate his dedication to serve the country,” Bopi said.
The appointment was endorsed by the National Executive Council on April 4.
Warren arrived with wife Dr Catherine Warren.
He was the director for learning and teaching at the institute of biological, environmental and rural sciences at Aberystwyth University in Wales.
He is the author of the book “The Nature of Crops, how we came to eat the plants we do” published in 2015 and co-author of “The Agri-Environment” published in 2008.
