New weigh station under construction

A NEW weigh station is under construction at 9-Mile along the Highlands Highway in Lae.
The construction is taking place to enable the Government upgrade the 45km Lae-Nadzab Road into a four-lane highway from the revenue earned.
So far, phase one of the K540 million Asian Development Bank-funded project, from 9-Mile to Bulolo Junction 2-Mile is almost complete.
Papale Timio Kewa, the project manager in charge of the construction work, said they had completed 90 per cent of the job and were looking forward to having the facility opened in three months.
“We work for Classic Engineering and Construction Limited,” Kewa said.
“This is our first construction project and we hope to do well.
“We will build the office and install the sensor for weighing heavy trucks but another contractor will build the weigh bridge.”
Kewa said they would build a big office, a kitchen and toilet facilities.
“We are building it for the National Roads Authority that will have their officers stationed here,” Kewa said.
“The project is valued at about K400,000.”
Kewa said the building was a national project because heavy vehicles travelling to and fro would be inspected and weighed.
