NFC targets provinces to roll-out courses

THE National Fisheries College (NFC) is targeting provinces to roll-out its courses in vocational schools to meet the demand of the provinces.
“As a result of previous training need assessments, the National Fisheries College realised that it needs to support vocational training sectors so we can roll out programmes to them,” NFC principal Jeff Kinch said.
He said the maritime provinces had been assessed, selected and supported with capacity development.
He said the programme had not been rolled out yet because there were issues which needed to be ironed out.
“Vocational training centres are largely under-resourced, some are better than others. We have had issues on equipment and materials we gave out which have been misused,” he said.
Kinch said the technical vocational education training sector was very important and needed more attention from the government because the majority of the people could not access universities.
“We need to change and develop employment opportunities and that’s when lives are going to be driven by people starting their own businesses,” he said.
“Because of large unemployment and we need to skilled people.”
