THE new plan for the National Housing Corporation (NHC) is to acquire land to build more houses in Port Moresby and other centres.
NHC managing director Ditha Nayabbanung told The National yesterday that the plan for NHC now was to build more houses, and in Port Moresby they were concentrating on building houses at Duran Farm.
“Over the years, NHC did not build any new houses. We are just selling the old houses to survive,” Nayabbanung said.
“So what happens if these houses run out?  Where do we get after this? For this reason we are now trying to acquire land in Lae, Port Moresby and other centres to build more new house.”
Nayabbanung said for Port Moresby, houses were built at the Duran Farm and titles were not released because electricity and water were not brought in.
“Now that we have water and electricity being brought into the houses at Duran Farm, the Lands Department will release to us (NHC) the titles and by end of this year, we should have the first people move into the houses,” he said.
Nayabbanung said he would also re-scope the project at the farm by changing the managers there.
