THE ever-popular Sports Eventz Ltd Corporate Rugby League Nines was launched at the National Football Stadium on Monday but the exact dates of the event are yet to be confirmed.
Sports Eventz director Solomon Ravu said it was initially set for Aug 12 but had been put back by a week to allow teams to pay up their registration fees in full.
Ravu said so far eight teams had expressed interest to participate in this year’s event but there were still another 16 spots to be filled. Those who have so far indicated interest are Funeral Home Laumas, Avennell Engineering Systems, Department of Finance, Spidertek, National Capital District Commission 1 and 2, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Bishop Brothers Engineering, Bank of Papua New Guinea, Puma Energy, Goodman Fielder, PNG Ports and Eda Ranu.
Ravu said last year’s champions Central Provincial Government had yet to confirm their participation.
He said that the competition was scheduled for over nine weeks or nine nights subject to changes because the PNG Hunters were the main users of the National Football Stadium.
The tournament will end with the grand final on Sept 30.
“The deadline for team registration has been extended and teams wishing to participate can contact me on 72113070 or 76866870 for further information.”
He said the registration fee was K3950 per team and all fees needed to be deposited into the Sports Eventz Ltd account with ANZ Bank (Acc No.12864672).
