Nipa-Kutubu councillors await allowances

THE Nipa-Kutubu district development authority has not paid allowances to 23 councillors in the Poroma LLG since 2012.
The authority also during that period had not paid the LLG its administration funds.
Poroma LLG manager Jackson Epat said his councillors were suffering as the DDA had turned a blind eye on them by ignoring their requests for payments.
He said the councillors were declared on the same day in 2012 but the Electoral Commission declared their election a failed because of problems created by the presidential candidates.
He alleged that the DDA has failed to look into the needs of the councillors who were doing a tremendous job to maintain peace in their communities despite they were not recognised by their superiors.
“They (councillors) cannot continue to live like this as the national election is few months away and the DDA must polish up what it had failed,” Epat said.
“Poroma LLG was one of the worst areas known for law and order problems in the past and this practice has come to halt because of the work of the councillors maintaining peace and fighting law and order problems in the communities.”
