NSO to setup regional offices

ONE of the key element in the reforms undertaken by the National Statistical Office is establishing regional offices, legal officer Boe Douna says.
Douna said this was to lighten the load in Port Moresby where all data collected nationwide were kept.
“All the data is kept in Port Moresby and we would like to transfer that to the respective provinces,” Douna said.
“We would like to enhance data collection processing capabilities and interpretation of skills at the provincial level. We only go out to provinces to train officers.
“Once these offices are setup, officers on the ground would be able to collect and process data at their provinces and cut down on the hefty costs involved.”
Douna said they would setup an office in Milne Bay for the Southern region, Goroka for the Highlands, Lae for Momase and Kokopo for New Guinea Islands.
He said provincial administrations had arranged for land where the offices would be built.
