MORE than 100 students from Dei district attending Mt Hagen Technical College now see a bright future ahead of them.
They thanked local MP Wesley Nukundi for paying their fees which has enabled them to have a second chance at life.
Speaking for the 103 students who had their fees paid last year and this year, Junior Jacob commended the first-time MP for his vision in grooming district’s future leaders.
“This is what we take or see as second chance offered to us.”
Jacob, a final-year technical training certificate (TTC2) student, said 47 students from Dei attending the college last year were recipients of the school fee support.
“This year, 56 students benefited. That’s a total of 103 students. So that’s like a TTC student received almost K13,000. Some would graduate soon,” Jacob said. The students said the MP had secured spaces for “dropouts” in schools himself and then paid their fees.
“Our future seemed gloomy after we could not go further from grade 8, 10 or 12. But now, we see light at the end of the tunnel.
“We are proud that we have a leader who saw the need in us. We will be going out with flying colours as tradesmen in the technical fields.”
Jacob said school fees increased from K6050 in 2015 to K6808 this year, which were all paid for by the MP.
