Officer arrested for allegedly assisting human trafficking

POLICE in Chimbu have arrested and charged a senior police officer for allegedly aiding the trafficking of 18 young women from Central.
Director Crimes Chief Inspector Moses Ibsagi said Sgt Timothy Simbia, 43, from Angriman village in Angoram district of East Sepik, an officer-in-charge at Kundiawa police station, was charged with one count of human trafficking last Tuesday.
Ibsagi said he was charged in relation to the human trafficking case of women who were taken to Kundiawa by William Gare, owner of Kundiawa Hideaway Hotel.
Gare is currently facing charges and his case was recently transferred by Justice Panuel Mogish from the Waigani National Court to the Kundiawa National Court.
Ibsagi said police did a follow-up of the case and arrested Simbia and charged him for allegedly assisting Gare by assuring the parents of the girls of their safety and security.
Ibsagi said Simbia was released on a K1000 bail and would appear for mention at the Mt Hagen Committal Court.
