POLICE officers from the Morobe police headquarters who recently attended a family and sexual violence (FSV) sensitising workshop say they need a FSV unit.
Morobe community policing coordinator Sgt Diane Aiam said the police headquarters did not have an FSVU office.
“We don’t have a proper place for our FSV section to deal with survivors in the district so most times we send our cases to the Lae FSVU but they refer them back to us,” Sgt Aiam said.
“This has been a big setback for us in performing our duty.”
Sgt Aiam said following a three-day workshop with Femili PNG (FPNG) in Lae on child abuse, abuse of men and women, the different types of abuses and the consequences, the officers realised that there was a lot of work to be done.
“FSV is a broad area, but we have only dealt with it at our level.
“This is the first time for both male and female officers from the headquarters to attend such training and we are grateful for partners like FPNG whom work with.”
The workshop was attended by 15 participants including officers from remote stations in Tewai-Siassi, Mumeng, Menyamya and Zifasing.
