Official sad many names missing

ONLY 61 per cent of the 22, 371 eligible voters in Rabaul, East New Britain voted, returning officer Ekonia Walom says.
Speaking at the declaration of Dr Allan Marat, the new MP-elect for Rabaul, he said the remaining percentage did not vote.
“This is a sad scenario for the people of Rabaul because your votes determine the future of our country,” Walom said.
He said issues with names missing from the electoral roll were a major problem encountered during polling in the electorate.
He said the final roll was riddled with missing names and people were turned away from the polling booths.
Walom said it was now an issue of concern that should be addressed immediately by the PNG Electoral Commission before the country went into future elections.
ENB administrator and election steering committee chairman Wilson Matava commended the performance by Rabaul district and security personnel.
He congratulated member elect, Dr Allan Marat and his family for his victory and people of Rabaul.
“The PESC will continue to function as a political arm to  the district development authorities
in ENB and the provincial executive council.”
