Officials prep for B’ville community govt elections

ELECTION officials on Bougainville are preparing to conduct the community government elections.
They recently attended training in North, Central and South Bougainville covering electoral procedures for conducting the community government elections.
The returning officers and their assistants will in turn conduct training in their community governments for those selected as election officials.
The staging of the community government election is in compliance with the adoption of the Bougainville Community Government Act by the Bougainville House of Representatives last year.
The dates for the community government elections will be announced shortly by Bougainville Acting Electoral Commissioner George Manu.
It is expected to be held before the general election.
Manu challenged returning officers and their assistants to study the procedures for conducting the elections. He said the procedures were a bit different from other elections in Bougainville.
Manu said the success of the elections would depend on the effective execution of their roles.
