O’Neill attributes commanding win to service delivery

IALIBU-Pangia MP and Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has attributed his increasing popularity among voters in the electorate to the service he has provided.
He polled around 18,000 votes when he first won in 2002, 25,000 votes in 2007, 44,000 votes in 2012 and almost 49,000 votes this year – about 78 per cent of the nearly 63,000 votes cast. “You have to deliver development for your district,” O’Neill said.
“If a member fails in this basic responsibility, they will not be returned.
“If you fail your people, you lose their respect.
“But when you deliver on your promises, the people respect this and their support increases.” He thanked the people of Ialibu-Pangia for supporting him.
“I’m aware of the huge trust and confidence you showed in me and I hope I won’t let you down,” O’Neill told the crowd at Momei Oval in Mendi, Southern Highlands.
“I know the last five years was not an easy Government but I know we will strengthen.” O’Neill said the People’s National Congress party was doing exceptionally well.
“It is a clear indication of the support that the country is seeking,” O’Neill said.
“They have seen a stable government which has delivered stable services over the past five years.
“Many of our members are getting elected back into parliament because of our stable policies.
“Some of our Government members have lost their seats.
“But you can see the Opposition members also winning their seats with very good margins.
“It is a clear indication that the people want stability in their electorates and in the country.”
