Organiser hopes for bigger festival

HUNDREDS of Port Moresby residents enjoyed a fun-filled day at Ela Beach and the street leading up to the Ring road on Paga Hill for the Independence Day celebrations.
Event organiser Sylvia Pascoe said there was a lot of dancing and laughing as people enjoyed the Music and Street Festival.
She estimated the crowd to be around 50,000.
She said National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop wanted a family environment so that the people could “reclaim the streets and have a good time”.
Pascoe said the idea was to give Port Moresby residents an opportunity to celebrate independence in a different way.
“A bigger outdoor event as such would give people the opportunity to come out of their homes and celebrate important events with friends and families without fear.”
She hopes to make the street festival bigger next year to cover the entire city.
