A GROUP of 290 students graduated from the Kumul Training Institute in Port Moresby on Monday.
The students graduated with certificates in various courses, including technical vocational education training (Tvet) courses.
The Tvet courses were supported by the National Capital District, Central, Moresby-South and Moresby North-East under their respective Tvet scholarship programmes.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop’s executive officer Dr Newton Albert said Parkop had been partnering with Moresby-South MP Justin Tkatchenko and Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa to support their Tvet programmes in order to empower youths in the city.
“The MPs and the governor continue to support Tvet programmes with the aim of giving second chances to people who could not make it into tertiary institutions through the formal education system,” Dr Albert said.
“Under the Tvet scholarship programme, a team has been established to have the correct database for the Tvet students. We will be looking at securing employment opportunities for the top 10 per cent from the graduating class.”
School director Max Kuri said the institution had been doing a lot to help young people who could not make it through the formal education system. “We educate Papua New Guineans in a similar way as the formal education system.”
