The Miss Pacific Island Pageant (MPIP) PNG has created a platform for local designers to showcase their talent, local designer Elizabeth Omeri says.
Omeri is one of the recipients of Project Runway which was staged by MPIP on July 30.
The recent fashion extravaganza showcased garments from local designers.
She said that Project Runway had taken the publicity of the local designers a step further and has created avenues for them to showcase their work on textile.
She will be among 10 local designers who will be showcasing their brand during the pageant.
Omeri’s brand, Denani, will be showcased by Miss International Training Institute (ITI) 2016 Rose Lakore Pitoi.
“I truly appreciate being chosen as one of the designers to participate in this wonderful initiative through MPIP,” she said.
“I am so grateful to MPIP organisers for believing in me knowing that I can bring out the best of PNG through my designs together with my fellow sister designers.”
Omeri said she would be concentrating more on traditional contemporary designing which was where her interest lies.
“I want to bring our traditional costumes and turn them into textile designs.”
“You don’t always have to rely on print but can use your imagination and creativity to bring out the colourful traditional costumes and turn them into beautiful textile designs,” she said.
