Pangu Pati’s Saonu leads Morobe race for governor

PANGU Pati candidate Ginson Goheyu Saonu is leading the race for the seat of Morobe governor – currently held by Kelly Naru (pictured) – with 20,665 votes early yesterday.
Former governor Luther Wenge is lying second at 19,283, with former administrator Kemas Tomala next with 11,681.
Naru is lying fourth on 10,468.
His deputy Judas Nalau is on 8529.
In the 2012 general election, Naru, standing as an independent, snatched the governor’s seat from Wenge.
Both are again in the running this year.
Morobe election manager Simon Soheke said counting for the regional seat was suspended yesterday.
The districts counted so far for the seat in the country’s biggest province are Huon Gulf, Lae and Finschhafen.
There are six more districts left – Bulolo, Kabwum, Menyamya, Tewae-Siassi, Markham and Nawaeb.
Counting is expected to resume today.
Soheke said counting for the Lae open seat was facing hiccups, thus delaying counting.
The seat is currently held by Loujaya Kouza.
