Panthers top table, go into round 13

THE Port Moresby Rugby League women’s competition heads into round 13 at the National Football Stadium this weekend.
With top eight playoff spots still up for the competition,  the clubs vie for the 2017 premiership and the players look to impress selectors and make the national women’s team to the women’s Rugby League World Cup.
The unbeaten Paga Panthers lead the standings followed by Royals, Sisters, Butterflies, Souths, Hawks and Tarangau.
Today at the National Football Stadium Oval 2, Butterflies take on the Kone Storm, Kone Tigers clash with Defence and Royals face off against the Hohola Flies.
Tomorrow’s only women’s fixture sees Tarangau play Souths.
West and Sisters have the honour of playing the curtain-raiser to the Digicel Cup round nine match between the Port Moresby Vipers and the Mendi Muruks on Sunday at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.
The other Sunday fixtures take place at NFS 2 with Dobo Warriors taking on Magani and the Hawks playing Paga. In the midweek match on Wednesday, Butterflies forward Carol Humeu shone along with teammate Esther Vaso in their 14-8 win over Tarrangau.
Humeu, Consie Wamura and Kaia Ovia scored tries while half back Delilah Ahose kicked a conversion. In the other results Magani drew 12-12 with West while Sisters beat Kone Tigers 20-4.
