BUSINESSMAN and Triumph Heritage Empowerment (THE) party candidate Geoffrey Kama was declared the member-elect for Karamui-Nomane yesterday.
He unseated People’s National Congress party candidate Mogerema Sigo Wei at the end of 44th exclusion at the Dixons Oval in Kundiawa, Chimbu, yesterday.
Kama from Kilau village in Salt LLG was declared at 2.30pm yesterday.
Running second was another businessman, Michael Korry, who pollied 7439 votes.
Kama scored 9136 to pass the absolute majority of 8417.
According to provincial election manager Rev Tom Sine, counting for the Gumine seat remained suspended because the Electoral Commission did not appoint a replacement for the returning officer who had stood down saying he had been threatened.
Meanwhile, a declaration for Kerowagi open seat is expected tomorrow while counting for Kundiawa-Gembogl has been suspended for a court ruling on disputed ballot boxes.
“Counting remains suspended because of a court order in place,” Sine said.
