Pay delay upsets officials

POLLING officials in the Morobe lower level government area have expressed concern at the delay in allowances.
At least 30 locals, who were engaged during polling to identify voters and provide security at polling stations, raised the concern after learning that other officials had received their share.
A polling official from Morobe local level government area, Pama Josia, told The National yesterday that they did not have any bank accounts but were promised that their payment would be done via the provincial electoral commission account.
He said they were still waiting for the  provincial electoral office in Lae to inform them of the progress.
Provincial assistant electoral manager Freda Jose said they were waiting for the payment from headquarters.
Jose said those who had submitted their accounts, should have received their payments.
However, some polling officials still fronted up at the provincial electoral office, saying they did not receive their allowances even though they had produced their account numbers.
“The delay is related to wrong account numbers given or that the accounts they gave were dormant which was the case for those who came asking,” Jose said.
