People pay tribute to businessman

HUNDREDS of people packed the St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Port Moresby yesterday to remember the late Sir Michael (Mick) Curtain.
Curtain Brothers employees, friends, family members, business associates and politicians attended.
Sir Mick, who spent the past 50 years in PNG, died in Townsville on Sept 11. He was 75.
Justin McGann, general manager of Curtain Bros PNG, described Sir Mick as a “visionary statesman”.
Son David told of how his father and two uncles moved to Port Moresby in March 1966 and started a business.
He also told of his father’s love for the country.
“There are many acts of kindness and generosity that he did for others, many large and many small,” Curtain said.
“He quietly just did them, never seeking recognition for any of them.
“He had a passion for PNG and there are many Papua New Guineans who received his generosity.
“It has been said people will never forget what you said. They will forget what you did but they will never forget how you made them feel.
“Like the rest of us, dad was not perfect but there is no doubt there are many people who feel enriched by the contact he had with them.”
