FORMER SP Papua New Guinea Hunters second-rower Brandy Peter has been training with the Q-Cup side this week.
Coach Michael Marum said the 25-year old had been in close contact with him and was keen to return to Hunters fold.
The Southern Highlander, who was a foundation player in the Hunters debut year in 2014, is considered one of the best back-rowers the club has produced.
He proved his worth with his consistency and quality over the club’s first three years culminating in his rise to the Kumul ranks in 2015 and last year.
Peter has the distinction of being one of only two Hunters inaugural recruits who were plucked straight out of local leagues unlike the majority of the squad who had Digicel Cup experience.
Marum said having a player of the caliber of Peter would be a boost to the club.
Peter was dropped from the squad after failing to to meet the fitness requirements but Marum said he was willing to give the dynamic forward a second chance provided he got his fitness back to  the required standard.
Marum said he had told all former players that they were all still able to return to the Hunters as long as they improved on the areas that had been highlighted to them in the pre-season.
“Brandy has been saying he wants to play,”  Marum said.
“I think he is doing the right things and is keen to get back into the side.”
Peter had an opportunity to link up with the Souths Logan Magpies this year Marum but after that fell through he was then linked to the Ipswich Jets but he has since stated that being with the Hunters is his preference.
Marum said he would discuss Peter’s return with the PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka and CEO Reatau Rau and if all went well a contract would drawn up.
Marum said if Peter’s return was green lit, he would still need to prove his fitness to get games.
