Piggies emerge winners over Hunters

The University Piggies emerged 25-16 winners in a close encounter against a determined Valley Hunters outfit in the Capital Rugby Union’s premier grade match on Saturday.
Having defeated University earlier in the season, the Hunters were keen to repeat that feat as they stayed competitive throughout the match.
The Valley Hunters did not allow University to have things all their way. However, the experience and patience of the Piggies showed as they managed to cross the line three times in the first half through Charlie Mark, Dean Manale and Barol Homerang.
The persistent Valley Hunters hit back with two tries of their own through Mhustapha Goena and James Lumaris to bring the half time score to 19-10 in favour of University.
The second half saw the Valley Hunters lift their defensive effort as they were able to tame the Piggies’ forwards and their backline, isolating players and turning over the ball.
The Valley Hunters, however, failed to convert these opportunities into points and this allowed the Piggies to regroup and drive down the middle of the field for Nixon Tagi to score a converted try.
A consolation try to Valley Hunters in the final five minutes to John Edwards brought the final score to 26-15.
A deserved win to University saw them grind out a result against a spirited opponent and that will serve them well as the competition heads into the playoffs with one round of the regular season remaining.
