Plans to benefit PNG, Pacific

PAPUA New Guinea and the Pacific are to benefit from plans to make Port Moresby the regional hub, according to Air Niugini general manager customers and markets Dominic Kaumu.
Kaumu, pictured, told The National that Air Niugini was encouraging “two destination” passengers with foreigners coming in through Port Moresby before going onto destinations in the region.
“There have also been passengers from out of the region who have booked flights with Air Niugini for the Christmas period,” Kaumu said.
“We have a number of people who have booked flights to FSM and other regional destinations, not necessarily from Papua New Guinea, but coming in from other countries.
“That again compliments our strategy of making Port Moresby the regional hub for flights.
“We are encouraging people to come and have two destinations.
“For example they could come to PNG , stay for a couple of days before travelling over to Micronesia or any other regional destinations that Air Niugini operates flights to.
“Passengers that come in transition in Port Moresby can also contribute to the tourism sector by going to diving and surfing spots such as Vanimo, New Ireland, Madang and other provinces.
“We are encouraging the two-destination travel.
“PNG and the Pacific will benefit from it.”
Air Niugini operates a domestic network from Port Moresby and Lae, as well as international services in Asia, Oceania, and Australia.
