PNG Ports donates K20,000 to fire victims

PNG Ports Corporation Ltd has donated K20,000 to the people of Hanuabada whose houses were burnt in a recent fire.
Chairman of PNG Ports Corporation Nathaniel Poya said that PNG Ports and Hanuabada have existed side by side for years, sharing the same waterways to forge their livelihood and they sympathised with the families who lost their homes.
“On behalf of the management and staff of PNG Ports Corporation Ltd, let me express sadness for the destruction and loss of homes at Hanuabada.
“Recovery from this tragedy will take a long time and we, at PNG Ports, sympathise as you rise up and start your lives again.
“We can only hope that this contribution from PNG Ports will at least help rebuild your lives.”
Poya said the donation was in recognition of Hanuabada as an important stakeholder and PNG Ports would help in any way it could to ease the villagers’ suffering.
He also said that PNG Ports would continue to work with the villagers in spin-off businesses and other social activities to promote their living standard.
Two weeks ago, 18 homes in the Motuan village were completely razed to ashes and 24 others partially damaged, leaving more than 200 people homeless.
PNG Ports and Hanuabada, as well as Tatana, Baruni, and other coastal villages located within its sphere of operations at the Fairfax Harbour, share a long history of friendship as stakeholders of the Port Moresby port and port operations in the nation’s capital.
