PNG Power conducts entry tests

PNG Power Limited is conducting entry tests for more than 900 young people applying to join the company’s apprenticeship and traineeship programmes next year.
Chief executive officer Chris Bais said the first intake was last year.
“PPL is in a drive to train and maintain a robust workforce that will take the company forward and ensure there is no skills gap when the aging workforce exits the company,” Bais said.
The apprenticeship and traineeship programmes were revived last year.
“Trades or courses taught at the college under these programmes ensures that quality hands-on training is given to the trainees,” he said.
Those who pass the entry test will go through an interview process and medical examination.
The entry tests are for those wanting to become electrical fitters, diesel mechanics, machine fitter machinists, lines, power station operators, meter technicians and electrical inspectors.
Applicants in other provinces did their tests at the PPL branch offices.
In Port Moresby, 531 applicants turned up early at the PPL Training College at Hohola. Among them were five girls aiming to become electrical fitters.
Applicant Hedwick Patia said PNG Power was a big company and provided the right environment for her to build a career in the electrical industry.
