PNG Power forced to stand down workers

PNG Power Limited has advised electricity consumers in Western Highlands that it has stood
down all its workers for security reasons.
According to a statement released by acting Chief Executive Alex Oa, pictured, trouble has continued since the declaration of the Mt Hagen open seat.
“PNG Power workers will not attend to any call-out or any emergency calls as the safety of our staff and properties is important to us,” Oa said in the statement.
“We appeal to the general public in Western Highlands not to take any drastic action that
would interfere or compromise the electricity supply to the province as it would only cause inconvenience for everyone else in the province.”
Oa said the company’s operations would return to normal when the situation on the ground returned to normal.
