PAPUA New Guinea pulled out of the OFC Under-16 Women’s Championship for reasons only known to the PNG Football Association.
The withdrawal is the latest set-back for women’s football in the country as PNG just returned from the OFC U20 women’s tournament in New Zealand last week. Papua New Guinea was followed by Solomon Islands withdrawing from the youth tournament.
Following their withdrawals, Group A was left with five teams and Group B with three.
A draw was conducted at the OFC Academy on July 29, which drew Tonga from Group A into Group B to make two groups consisting of four teams each.
The match schedule had been revised to accommodate the changes and the competition will now conclude a week earlier on Friday, Aug 18.
