PNGFA releases 2018 competition calendar

Opportunities for regional glory will be rolling in thick and fast in 2018 after PNG Football Association signed off the competition calendar this month.
The National Soccer League, the country’s top domestic soccer competition, will get next year’s events in January while the 11th edition of the OFC Women’s Nations Cup will end the calendar in December.
The member associations’ domestic competitions kick off their pre-season in February followed by OFC Champions League with Group A in Vanuatu, Group B in Tahiti, Group C in New Zealand and Group D in Solomon Islands.
The top two from each pool will advance to the quarterfinals in April with the finals scheduled for May.
In between these two events will be the PNGFA member association’s domestic competition season proper kicking off in April.
PNGFA will revive the youth tournament. The national under-17 will be held in June followed by the Besta FA Cup regional qualifying tournament from July 1-31.
The OFC U19 men’s championship will be hosted by Federation Tahiti Football from Aug 4-18.
The Besta FA Cup finals will be held in September while at the same time, the OFC U16 men’s championship will be taking place in Honiara, Solomon Island, from Sept 8-22.
PNGFA member associations end their season proper on Sept 29 and the women’s national league returns to the calendar on Oct 15 after five-year hiatus.
The NSL 2018-2019 season kicks off on Nov 10 and ends on Dec 15.
The final event is the OFC Women’s Nation’s Cup to be held in late November to early December which two nations bided to host.
