TWO suspects who allegedly held up a man with home-made guns and stole more than K500 and a mobile phone were arrested by Lae police on Wednesday.
According to police reports, the suspects allegedly held up the man last Sunday evening along the Back Road area near Malahang.
Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr confirmed that the suspects robbed the victim without knowing that he actually lived close to them and had recognised them.
“The victim then went to the police station with his relatives and reported the matter and police responded the next day and arrested one of the suspects,” he said.
Wagambie said the police then searched the suspects’ hideout and nabbed the other suspect along with two home-made guns, ammunitions and homebrew-making equipment.
“They have been formally arrested and detained at the Lae police cells. They will appear at the Lae District Court to be charged,” he said.
