Waigani Police Station commander Jerry Yawa has refuted claims on Facebook that some students from two secondary schools in Port Moresby were arrested and charged last Friday.
Photos of young adults seen behind bars with homebrew went viral on Facebook.
“There is no confirmed information students detained.  Youths from June Valley were arrested and charged,” Yawa said. Gerehu Secondary School principal Besoko Aguna also denied reports of students from his school put behind bars over drinking.
Gerehu was one of the two schools mentioned. “You are the first to inform me. I have not received any reports,” Aguna told The National.
“Anything that is done outside the school, the report is submitted to the school by the police then we take disciplinary action but if does not come to the attention of the administration then we have no idea.
“We cannot take action on what we do not know.”
