Police to investigate triple murder, wounding of eight

A GROUP of police officers will fly into Garaina in Morobe today to investigate and arrest suspects involved in the recent murder of three men and the wounding of eight others.
Bulolo police station commander Insp Leo Kaikas said 11 police officers will travel to Hatwara, Saiko, Garoka and Rogiwai villages in the Garaina LLG of Bulolo to investigate the incident. Kaikas said the officers would be two criminal investigation division (CID) members and nine mobile squad members.
Kaikas said from initial reports police received, a group of men attacked another group after claiming that they had trespassed into their land and collected pandanus fruits.
“The suspects had used high-powered guns to raided the victims’ village and killed three men and injured eight others,” he said.
“The injured had escaped to Bulolo town and reported the matter to police. They are receiving treatment at the hospital.
“The Bulolo district has funded the policemen’s trip.”
Kaikas said although they received information last week, police could not travel into the area because it was remote and not connected by road to Bulolo town.
“The situation is tense but the policemen will be there for two weeks and restore peace and order.
“They will investigate the incident and arrest those involved.”
Kaikas called on the villages involved to cooperate with police when they were on the ground.
