A POLICE officer was put on a six-month good behaviour bond after being found guilty of drunk and disorderly and damaging property.
“You are a police officer and it is your duty to uphold the law, I hope you learn and change from this,” Boroko District Court magistrate Mariestella Painap told John Pii yesterday.
Pii, from the Wapenamanda district of Enga, entered the Gordon Police Barracks in Port Moresby drunk and broke the door and some louver blades of his wife’s room. She is also a police officer and their daughter lived with them.
Painap told the court that Pii’s sentencing after a two-day trial came down to two factors – Pii pleading not guilty it was not the first time Pii was involved in such an incident.
“You are a good person, you attend all court dates and you can be a better police officer, a better husband and father if you learn your lesson and change,” Painap told Pii.
The court ordered Pii not to drink any alcohol and not to enter the Gordon Police Barracks, particularly the female quarters, while he was on the six-month good behaviour bond.
The matter will return to court for review on Dec 14.
Painap told Pii that further orders would be given if he breached the orders.
