POLICE in Manus will start their police festive-season operation on Friday.
The operation will continue until Jan 3 and will cover Lorengau town, the highway, LLGs and the outer islands
Acting Manus commander Senior Inspector David Yapu said their focus would basically be on setting up roadblocks at random locations to check vehicles and drivers, patrolling the highway, footbeat and motorist patrolling, execution of National Court bench warrants, recapturing prison escapees, apprehending wanted suspects involved in serious crimes and still at large, community policing awareness, conducting raids and searched and apprehending drugs, homebrew and alcohol abusers.
He appealed to the community and people of Manus to change their behaviour and attitude and to behave so that people could celebrate the Christmas and New Year more peacefully in the province.
“Police will come down hard on those who break the rule of law and will deal with them accordingly. No one is above the law and we will ensure that we enforce the rule of the law in an impartial and objective manner,” Yapu said.
