Pomat takes charge of 10th Parliament

MANUS MP and People’s National Congress party candidate Job Pomat was appointed the Speaker of the 10th parliament yesterday.
Pomat was nominated by Kiriwina-Goodenough MP Douglas Tomuriesa and received 60 votes over the Opposition’s nominee and Rabaul open MP, Dr Allan Marat, who had 46.
Soon after being elected, Pomat went to Government House to present himself to Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae.
Sir Bob administered the declaration of office of the Speaker on him. He also handed Pomat a commission authorising him to administer the declaration of loyalty and declaration of office of members.
Pomat returned to Parliament to resume the sitting for the election of the prime minister.
In his first address to the House, Pomat said he would need the support of the House  to restore its integrity.
