Positive progress for ABG: Momis

AUTONOMOUS Bougainville Government President Dr John Momis says that despite negative vibes from the national government’s attitude towards Bougainville, there are positive development initiatives by the ABG.
“The commodity support facility (CSF) recently launched and supported under the governance implementation fund is a positive development for the farmers of Bougainville and will bring tangible development at the community and village levels while allowing Bougainville to explore downstream processing opportunities for products such as cocoa, as evidenced by the recent chocolate festival held in Buin and Arawa,” Momis said.
“In investments, the ABG continues to foster activities that will bring investor confidence in Bougainville with continued engagements with international organisations such as the Cairns Chamber of Commerce and the continued engagements with Chinese investment interests which the government is confident will result in positive developments to grow Bougainville’s economy on a path to fiscal self-reliance.”
Despite the financial setback, Bouganville was able to rehabilitate many of the road networks – both trunk and feeder roads.
Sealing of the Buka ring road phase one and two is a vivid example of these efforts and major road upgrade and sealing in Central and South Bougainville.
There are major economic enablers that would foster economic development through an improved road infrastructure, he said.
The rehabilitation of Nissan, Buin, Boku and Torokina airstrips will be a catalyst to development in the tourism sector.
