Possible bail for cop facing attempted murder charge

A POLICEMAN charged with attempted murder of another cop in Port Moresby last year will appear in the national court in Bomana today for his possible bail.
Justice Panuel Mogish re-listed Wilson Muka’s bail application for hearing today after Muka was not present in court yesterday.
Justice Mogish said that it was proper for the accused person (Muka) to be present so that the court would be satisfied that there was a person with the name of Wilson Muka and that person was seeking bail.
Muka’s lawyer Samsom Jevate could not give the exact location where Muka was remanded because it was not clear if Muka was at Bomana, Waigani police cells or elsewhere in the city police holding cells.
Muka, 36, from Kilip village in Banz, Jiwaka, was charged with attempted murder of Patrick Premenga, at his house at Games Police Barracks on Oct 19, last year.
He was also charged with shooting and damaging the rear right tyre of a police vehicle that was allocated to the Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate.
He is also charged with two other counts of using threats, physical assault, firing gun shots to and intimidation to Premenga and other members of fraud squad and their families.
It was alleged that Muka went with other police officers all armed with high-powered riffles and blocked off the road leading to the Premengas’ house and allegedly fired shots at Premenga.
Muka was arraigned at the Waigani Committal Court last Friday and will appear on Oct 28 for mention.
