WESTERN police commander Supt Joe Puri is calling on to those who smuggle drugs into the province from the Highlands to stop the trade or they will be banned from entering Western.
Puri told The National from Kiunga yesterday after two men were allegedly caught at Ningerum with K400 worth of drugs and about K1000 earned from selling drugs along the way.
“The young men travelled from Hela, walked through the bush to Tabubil and have been selling drugs there and at Ningerum,” he said.
“Drugs believed to be from the Highlands should not be brought and sold in this province (Western).
“Arresting of these two men indicated that there is a network, people here in Western facilitating the distribution of drugs.
“We (police) will interview these two and get to the bottom of this network.”
He warned that if police caught anyone entering the province to earn quick money from drugs, would not return to their province until after a court has decided their fate. On top of that they would be banned from entering Western for five years.
