PORT Moresby Gold finished on top of the Southern Confederate women’s rugby league trials with an 18-14 win over PRL Green yesterday at the National Football Stadium Oval 2.
PRL Gold had earlier beaten Moresby Southern Blacks 8- 0.
PRL Green humiliated Southern Blacks 30-0 in first game on Wednesday.
PRL Gold were the most consistent side over the trials with Elvina Aaron and Joanne Kuman winning the players’ award.
The PRL sides had 17 of their players named in the Southern squad while the Southern Blacks contributed four players.
The PNG Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka, who watched the PRL Green-Southern Blacks on Wednesday, said he was encouraged by the enthusiasm of the Moresby South side against their more experienced PRL opponents.
He said trial matches were for testing talent and seeing whether or not players could perform in a representative level against a high level of talent.
The Under-16, U18 and women’s training squads would be named this week in preparation for the National Zone Championships in Lae next month (Aug 13-15).
The women’s squad are scheduled for their first training session at Apex Park at 9am on Sunday.
