Publishing report online cost effective: NRI

THE PNG Institute of National Research says there has been a substantial saving since it started publishing reports on its website rather than printing them.
Deputy director Dr David Ayres revealed this during the launching of NRI’s website.
“We recognise that internet prices are one of the factors driving challenges for the private sector in Papua New Guinea. For us, this is an issue very dear to our heart,” he said.
“The NRI website is our way of demonstrating confidence in this (ICT) sector. Investing in internet produces cost savings.
“Previously, we printed all our publications. We had an industrial printer here on the campus. We used to print copies of all of our reports and they would be available.
“That was a very costly exercise. While we did sell those reports to some people, we never recover anywhere near the cost of printing those reports.
“Every year, several hundred thousands of Kina was spent by this institution in printing, disseminating reports and copies of reports.
“By investing in internet, and moving towards a more digital framework, for the dissemination of our report, we’ve saved substantial money.”
