Puma gets permit to supply aviation fuel

PUMA Energy PNG Ltd has been given the approval by the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission to enter and supply aviation fuel at the Jackson International Airport in Port Moresby.
The commission has accepted Puma Energy’s written undertaking to comply with the conditions set out in the ICCC’s authorisation determination (A2016/23).
On May 31 this year, the commission granted Puma Energy the authority to enter and supply aviation fuel at the airport because of the potential public benefits that would result from it.
The only other supplier of aviation fuel at the Jackson International Airport is Pacific Aviation Energy (PNG) Limited.
ICCC commissioner and chief executive Paulus Ain said allowing another aviation fuel supplier into Jackson would give airline operators would have more than one fuel supplier to choose from.
“This is likely to result in lower aviation fuel costs passed onto airline customers in the form of lower airfares,” he said.
He said given that Puma Energy was the only fully integrated aviation fuel company in Papua New Guinea, the commission had imposed certain conditions to ensure that Pacific Aviation or any other fuel supplier would be able to compete on a level playing field.
“The Independent Consumer and Competition Commission  is pleased to advise that Puma Energy has given a written undertaking to abide by and fully comply with these documents,” Ain said.
