LAE MP John Rosso wants to see the Lae City Authority established soon.
Rosso told the business community at a breakfast this week that the authority would be his main focus.
“Expect a few changes in the next five years,” Rosso said.
“I’m not going to do changes that will please (some) people but I am going to do changes for the betterment of Lae.
“We have to get a city authority that works.”
The authority was approved by the previous government when Loujaya Kouza was Lae MP.
However, the start of its operation was stalled by issues, including financial setbacks.
Rosso said having the rubbish cleaned and getting municipal services working were important.
“We’ve got to get that operating properly. Right now, it is non-existent,” Rosso said.
“Any system at all would be good as long as it is working and efficient.
“I will talk with the governor to ensure that bill in the Tutumang gets passed.
“I will talk with the prime minister to ensure that the authority gets off the ground as soon as possible.”
Rosso said Lae faced problems such as poor road conditions, rubbish and crime but it was important as a generator of revenue for the country.
His administration will work with the business community to develop the city.
