THE quality and standard of match referees will be addressed as part of developments surrounding the inaugural Jonah Lomu Legacy Cup rugby sevens tournament next week.
The competition which runs from Dec 9-11 at Bava Park, Port Moresby, will have two lead referees from Brisbane according to tournament director Billy Rapilla.
“The two referees will arrive in the country on the Dec 6, and we will involve them in conducting refresher courses, upskilling our referees on the new rules and developments in match refereeing,” Rapilla said.
“We want to lift the quality of refereeing and this in turn improves the quality of play in general,” Rapilla said
Rapilla said the visiting referees were part of the overall strategy by CRU to not only improve player development, but the also the development of technical officials, using the the tournament as a platform.
