THE Saints take on the Tamaraws in Sunday’s Papua New Guinea Men’s Basketball League round fixtures at the Taurama Aquatic Centre.
The 5pm fixture pits two finals hopefuls who enjoy a good following among fans in the city.
Both sides are coming off close losses to the Chariots and Emperador respectively and they are looking to get their finals campaigns back on track.
Saints, under coach Larry Miro, will be looking for solid performances from Sibona Kala, Augustine Kaupa, Donald Kala, Jarrod Anderson and Mika Loko while the buffaloes will be looking at centre James Banduru Jr to play a role in his side’s offence.
With Banduru providing the height and physicality, Daroya Orlando, Manu Parapa and Robert Kave should be able to produce scoring plays and keep the scoreboard ticking against the Saints.
The main game at 7pm sees defending champions the Southern Flames taking on Emperador in a top-of-the-table clash.
Emerador coach Eddie Salazar will be looking for revenge as they gave the game away in their first round encounter with Flames.
Salazar will be banking on the local boys in Joe Elavo and Garry Holmes plus his Pinoy imports to step up.
Elavo was in great form over the national basketball championships last month which earned him a recall to the PNG squad.
He will be a handful as he was in the last game when both teams look to consolidate their positions on the ladder.
