Cricket PNG (CPNG) announced yesterday that the leading junior sport development programme — the BSP School Kriket programme has reached 82,915 participants for the year so far.
The programme, which reached a record 188,407 participants across 11 provinces in PNG last year, is on track to hit 150,000 participants for the fifth consecutive year after recording 40,575 in Term 1 and 42,340 in Term 2 for a grand total of 82,915 for this year.
Statistics showt hat the hard work put in place for the success of the programme had gained momentum once more in increasing cricket participation in schools.
“The BSP School Kriket programme has once again gained momentum and student participation has been good despite the election movement around the country,” game development regional coordinator Vaianna Gabba said.
“A total of 55 schools across 10 regions, during the nine week schooling term have had a good turnout, yet very challenging in terms of coping with schools’ schedules and the busy streets in the lead up to the 2017 general election.” The programme had exceeded the quarterly target of 37,500 with an addition of 4,840 student participation and reached a huge total of 42,340 for Term 2.
Gabba said due to clashes with school activities, most regions ran cricket clinics to be content and reach their targets.
